Work in progress: Franklin Avenue
- Before: the structural walls in the foreground separate the living, dining and kitchen; a portion of the back wall remains to carry the load
- Under construction: the structural wall is removed and the cabinets are installed
- Almost finished: lighting, appliances, cabinet fronts and countertops are installed
I thought you might enjoy photos of my Franklin Avenue project that is almost finished. We removed the load-bearing walls that once separated the kitchen from the dining room and living room (refer to before photo above) to create an open concept kitchen with a large island (well, actually it is a peninsula, since it is anchored by a wall at one end). The new structural beam is neatly tucked into the roof structure to create an uninterrupted ceiling plane. I specified the Sabine Hill concrete tiles for the backsplash behind the range that I featured in a previous post. The countertops are Lagoon Silestone that look similar to Carrara marble but without the maintenance issues of marble. The doors and drawers are a combination of high gloss white and flat-sawn walnut veneer. Stay tuned for more detailed photos.
