Sneak a Peek: Brown Road

Here is a just a sample of my photos of a completed project in a new construction, two-bedroom, two-bath vacation home in Lakeside, Michigan. The owners are an architect and a realtor in Chicago. The architect owner who designed the house took advantage of the site by capitalizing on natural light and views of the property with the use of large, sliding glass doors and clerestory windows. He had the ash trees (that needed to be removed from the site) repurposed into the hardwood plank floors … I really love all of the grain and knots that make it so unique and continue the flow of nature indoors.

I was involved with the kitchen design (cabinets are IKEA Abstrakt in white) and sourcing furniture pieces to complement their existing mid-century modern pieces. The budget was limited, but as always we made the most of it. I sourced the West Elm Parker Mid-Century Expandable Dining Table and paired it with Magnus Stained Chairs in Indigo from Restoration Hardware. We selected the Henry sleeper sofa from West Elm to accommodate overnight guests and to separate the living room from the dining room. I sourced the CB2 go-cart desk in bright orange (no longer available in this color) for the office/guest room to complement their desired color scheme of various shades of oranges and blues. The desk is light and has casters, so it can be moved easily as needed. The bath’s wall-mounted vanity is from IKEA. Unfortunately, not all of the bedding and office/guest room furniture arrived before I took these pics, so stay tuned for photos of the finished space to be posted at a later date.
